Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich dominate the Fifa FIFPro World XI
2014 defenders shortlist, having a total of 12 out of 20
candidates.
All of last year's four winners are among the nominees - Dani
Alves, Philipp Lahm, Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva were last year's
World XI defenders.
Leighton Baines, Ashley Cole, Dante and Nemanja Vidic have
disappeared from the shortlist compared to last year.
Dani Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Raphael Varane and Marcelo represent
Madrid after the Santiago Bernabeu side's successful Champions
League campaign.
Meanwhile, Jordi Alba, Alves, Javier Mascherano and Gerard Pique
are Barcelona's four candidates to make the World XI.
David Alaba, Lahm and Jerome Boateng are the three-man Bayern
contingent in the running to make the team.
Paris Saint-Germain duo David Luiz and Thiago Silva, Manchester
City's Pablo Zabaleta and Vincent Kompany, Chelsea pair Branislav
Ivanovic and Filipe Luis, Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin and
Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels complete the
shortlist.
The Fifa FIFPro World XI is decided by players and involves
votes from tens of thousands of professional footballers
worldwide.
